Camila Mejia graduated from her BA in Fashion Design at Istituto Marangoni London, where she was also recipient of the BA Fashion Design Award 2014. Her design philosophy resolves around focusing on a concept and developing the collection outwards from this focal point. As a result of being concept-driven, she utilises a variety of techniques and has designed both menswear and womenswear collections.

Her flexible approach to design reflects both her versatility and her desire to consistently challenge herself and push her boundaries. Despite the variety of topics that have inspired her, the summary of her work encapsulates the consistent DNA that runs throughout Camila’s collections. Complex silhouettes, elaborate pattern cutting and detailing and a textural experience are key features throughout, nestled amongst collections that are inspired by topics that range from playful to the political. Close-up photos of garments she has done exhibit the details present in her clothing, as well as the repeated usage of varied fabric effects.

Similarly to her inspirations and design elements, her portfolio follows these themes in its physical format. There are playful and impactful elements, as well as multiple textures and an underlying sense of clean organisation.

Any of her original pieces and portfolio can be seen upon request.

Work Experience

During summer 2011 she interned at Alexander McQueen and McQ where she assisted in many phases of the design process for five months, all the way through to preparation for Paris Fashion Week. She has also worked in small projects like a collaboration with "up and coming" menswear designer Massimo Casagrande and has sold several made to measure evening gowns. In December 2013 she interned at JAEGER menswear assisting the design team.  From 2012 to present she has worked part time with one of the London-based fashion editors for Hia Magazine (published in the UAE) doing fashion editorials, styling private clients (celebrities and royalty from UAE) and editing content during fashion weeks. During the same time in 2014 she worked at WGSN doing reports for design trend forecasting, seasonal macrotrends, street style and accessories and in 2015 interned at Victoria Beckham RTW main line design development team. Currently she is a fashion and lifestyle consultant for some elite clients at Harrods By Appointment and is working on her own brand: "Camila Mejia

She also has other experiences. During her time in South America, She used to work in her family clothing business and became proficient in many technical areas as well as public relations. She started learning how to sew, make patterns and sketch, she also learned how to research, develop, organise and sell a collection from very early in her career.

During the same period, She studied Telecommunications Engineering for four years. This has helped her a great deal to understand clothes construction from a different, more scientific perspective - and she has used this approach actively in all her design work.
